    about us

A WORLD IN WHICH COMMUNITY, ENVIRONMENT, AND ECONOMY FUNCTION AS A SYSTEM OF WELL-BEING.

OUR VISION

Through operating businesses and investments across the full capital spectrum from philanthropy to market rate, we advance initiatives across four interconnected areas, known as our IMPACT THEMES.

IMPACT THEMES

OCEAN VITALITY

Since the health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of our ocean, we are committed to developing a renewed and regenerative relationship between the ocean, its biodiversity, and coastal communities.

  • From food sources to economic opportunity, our ability to thrive relies on strengthening our relationship with the ocean.

    We focus on:

    • Investing in aquaculture as a regenerative solution to ocean health and a diverse global food supply.

    • Improving the health of the Gulf of California – one of the most biodiverse seas in the world.

LAND & WATER STEWARDSHIP

To sustain a growing world population in the face of extreme weather conditions, we look to the intersection of old traditions and cutting-edge innovations that respectfully cultivate land and water resources that nourish us.

  • Ecosystems with healthy soil, clean air, and water for biodiversity, consumption, and agriculture are essential to our health and well-being as well as our economic resilience.

    We focus on:

    • Developing and applying restorative, humane, and adaptive land-based food solutions for rapidly changing climate.

    • Accelerating restorative watershed practices in the region of La Paz, BCS, Mexico.

SENSE OF PLACE

By inspiring wonder, appreciation, and pride for collective histories, culture, and physical environments, we can motivate individual and collective responsibility for community well-being.

  • A strong sense of place exists when we share a sense of identity, belonging, respect, and responsibility. We believe it can inspire communities and individuals to enhance and protect the vitality of their land, water, people, and culture.

    We focus on:

    • Translating experiential learning into blue and green careers and active citizenship.

    • Developing and supporting opportunities for people of all ages to experience and celebrate art, culture, and heritage.

RESILIENT COMMUNITIES

Through connectivity, cooperation, economic development, and cultural exchange, local and regional communities can ensure a vibrant, resilient future rooted in shared identity and a shared commitment to prosperity inclusive of people, environment and economy.

  • Innovation, creativity, knowledge sharing, collaboration, and leadership are essential to economic and ecological resilience.

    We focus on:

    • Engaging civil society in developing local/regional solutions at the intersection of community, environment and economy.

    • Catalyzing and facilitating local and regional learning and innovation.

OUR VALUES

INNOVATION WITH A TOLERANCE FOR RISK

We are open to unconventional – even wild – solutions that are often overlooked, underinvested, and ahead of the curve. We have the will, flexibility, and patience to tackle complex challenges and test ideas.

CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND TEACHING

We question our assumptions, examine history, ground ourselves in science, and listen to the community. We learn from our failures, adapt, and iterate. We share our successes and learnings broadly to build our collective knowledge across sectors and geographies.

WHOLE-SYSTEMS APPROACH

We investigate environmental, economic, and social interdependencies at each stage from defining a problem set to developing solutions. We honor the local and regional sense of place to pursue holistic solutions and consider broad associations.

LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

Creative approaches take time to mature, demonstrate results, codify, and scale. Testing new and adaptive solutions requires trial and error. We are flexible and trust in the process it takes to build, test, and evolve.

INCLUSIVE METHODOLOGIES

We are committed to working with communities and believe the best solutions are inspired by those closest to the problems. We come with a beginner’s mindset and learn from those who have walked before us – both those who have succeeded and those who have failed.
